Mating Season
Shopkeepers pulled down their storefront gates and slammed the locks down hard. A young mother swooped up her tot like a crane and flew inside the apartment complex. It was coming and everyone could sense it, as the temperature seemed to grow higher and higher. Mr. and Mrs. McFerney, already with a family of twelve, put up an iron door between them. Soon the streets would be flooded with men and women attracted to one another like magnets. If you didn’t want a baby, you shouldn’t be outside anyway. It was mating season for humans.
